Typical food in El Salvador
Typical Food in El Salvador is very famous because is delicious, easy to prepare, cheap and is probably one of the best food you can taste. The food that most identifies Salvadoran people are "pupusas", a thick tortilla stuffed with meat, beans and/or cheese. There are other typical foods from El Salvador, like chilate, nuegados, yucca, atol de elote, tamales (from pork, chicken, beef), shuco, platano frito, casamiento, tortillas, and chicken soup. This time I am going to explain about food, not drinks.
TORTILLAS
They are fast and easy to make. U can use natural corn or instant masa; just add water, mix and stew for a minute. You can press between two small plates or use a tortilla press.
CASAMIENTO
Casamiento is a mix of beans and rice, usually left over from the previous day. They are fried together and often served for breakfast or dinner. You can't believe how much flavor the Salvadorans can pack into basic rice and beans.
CHICKEN SOUP
The chicken soup in El Salvador it is prepared with a variety of ingredients, which can include chicken, garbanzo beans, onions, carrots, potatoes, yuca, cilantro, onions, etc. It is delicious and many people have the tradition of eat it every Sunday at lunch.
Salvadoran Tamales de Gallina
The tamales are pockets of corn dough, stuffed with meat or sweet corn and served in banana leaves. Tamales are delicious in El Salvador! This kind of tamale is found in what was former Mayan territory, that is, in El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Southern They are amazing!
Plátanos Fritos
It is a simple dish of fried sweet plantains served with sour cream and beans is something to taste it. The plantains are perfectly fried, the sour cream is icy cold and beans just so good. Sweet fried ripe plantains are popular in many countries around the world.

Pupusas in El Salvador
Pupusas are the most popular food in El Salvador. Friends and relatives that are living in another country come to El Salvador and the first thing that they ask is When we will eat pupusas?. In my house I have had many foreign people from Spain, Germany, Swedish, Italy, etc. also some relatives who live in the U.S. Every time that they come ask me where are going to eat pupusas?.
Pupusas are the most popular food in El Salvador. A pupusa is delicious, it is easy to prepare, is thick, handmade corn or rice delicately filled with unique blend such as beans, pork, cheese, loroco, ayote, mixed, etc. finally, a pupusa only need a couple of minutes to be stew.
El Salvador has a lot of places where sell pupusas, called “Pupuserias”. There is a tradition to Salvadorian people go to eat pupusas every Saturday in the afternoon with family and friends. That is because Pupuserias are located in every streets and closer of any house but the most important thing is that they are cheaper in the majority of places, about $0.50 cvs. Each, so you can eat many pupusas in a low price.
When foreign people come to El Salvador, most of them already know about pupusas and they want to taste them, but others ask to Salvadorian people what is our Typical Food to taste it. If someone don’t know anything about pupusas, search on internet or ask to citizens to learn something about ir.
Pupusas are popular in El Salvador. They are delicious because are made of different ingredients. Pupusas have a cheaper price and easy to prepare. Salvadorian people eat pupusas with family and friends every Sunday. All of these reasons do Pupusas the most popular food in our country.
